President Akufo Addo has appointed the Commissioner of Police (COP) George Akuffo Dampare as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) taking over from James Oppong-Boanuh, effective 1 August 2021.
Oppong-Boanuh has been the head of the Police Service since 14 August 2019, when President Akufo-Addo so appointed him in accordance with the Constitution of Ghana.
COP Dampare is currently the director general in charge of administration in the Ghana Police Service and a member of the Police Management Board.
President Akufo Addo has ordered James Oppong Boanuh to go on a terminal leave starting from August 1, 2021 pending his retirement from the Ghana Police Service on October 7.
